	GCAP-Kenya is a country based advocacy coalition working under the umbrella of the Global Call to Action against Poverty (GCAP); a massive global coalition from more than 100 countries made up of a diverse range of community groups, coalitions, trade Unions, individuals, Faith Groups and campaigners (www.whiteband.org).   Since it was launched at the World Social Forum in January 2005 GCAP has mobilized more faith groups, women’s groups, trade unions, youth organizations, international NGOs, grassroots movements and numerous other civil society groups. Last year, GCAP-Kenya we partnered with churches, schools, social watch groups, the private sector and trade unions in a massive mobilization of over 102,000 Kenyans to raise awareness against poverty and the need for Governments to champion the realization of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG’s).   In our advocacy, we want to pressure governments to eradicate poverty, dramatically lessen inequality, and achieve or exceed the Millennium Development Goals. We demand: -          Public accountability, just governance and the fulfilment of human rights -          Trade justice -          A major increase in the quantity and quality of aid and financing for development -          Debt cancellation GCAP-Kenya is also referred to as Jukwa la Kupinga Umaskini (directly translated as Platform to Fight Poverty)   With its secretariat at Kenya Youth Education & Community Development Program(KYCEP), GCAP’s participation in C-CfA is being spearheaded for and on behalf of Kenyan CSOs by ActionAid International Kenya (AAIK), OSIENALA, WIFIP, and KYCEP.   AAIK is an international Non Governmental Organization working in Kenya since 1972. It exists to facilitate processes that eradicate poverty and ensure social justice through anti-poverty projects, local institutional capacity building and public policy influencing. AAIK champions the rights of the poor and marginalized, particularly women, and children, and recognizes that the most important players in the development process are the poor themselves, who must be supported to analyses and reach positions on policies that affect their lives. AAIK therefore strives to ensure that the voices and concerns of the poor are included explicitly in national development programs and priorities. AAIK is a member of GCAP-Kenya and intends to work with and through GCAP towards mobilization for G8 advocacy work as it did in 2005 for Gleneagles.   OSIENALAis a highly professional Kenyan National NGO working in partnership with similar organizations in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania to address environmental issues of Lake Victoria. OSIENALA has highly qualified professional and gathers its information for lobbying and Advocacy through research. It was established in 1992 as a forum for addressing the deteriorating condition of Lake Victoria which is shared by riparian states of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. Activities of OSIENALA are focusing on Poverty Reduction, Environmental Conservation and Resource Management.   WIFIP is an Education and Development Trust is a non profit organisation founded on the desire to contribute to the empowerment of marginalised communities in general and women in particular, through education and development initiatives. Based a working in Western Kenya, WIFIP believes in enabling people to have a voice and take action, through appropriate social and economic development initiatives.   The existence of KYCEP was prompted by a thorough study conducted in the fields of education, primary health and deepening poverty in the rural areas despite the rural population being the main producer in Kenya’s agricultural based economy. Other concerns that came out of the study were the exclusion of the youth and the rural populations as a whole in decision-making processes, a general lack of awareness of their rights and marginalization from access to basic information technology systems. The plight of the youth and women demanded immediate attention, as they were the most disadvantaged members of the community, despite being the most resourceful. Their potential was also underutilized. KYCEP set out to empower them as a first step towards community empowerment.

	Charles Mwangi is the GCAP Kenya National coordinator. He has steered the campaign in terms of coalition building, fundraising, and organizing of events Rose Wanjiru has work with on Japanese Aid and made presentation and researches on this in the past and has continued to work closely with TCSF for the last 2 years
