Information on your organization

STATISTICS AND LOCALISATION /CAMEROON:
·        location: Central Africa
·        population: about 20 millions citizens
·        area: 475 000 km²
·        youthfulness: 60% under 20 years old
·        50% in towns and 50% in rural zone
·        10 provinces (2 English-speaking and 8 French-speaking)
·        14 400 villages
·        SIDA: 5.5% in 2006.
 
APDC:
    In 1999, considering the dangerous consequences of privatisation in the liberalisation process going on in our countries, some personalities from the Cameroonian civil society decided to create an association for the defence of consumers rights named APDC.
    Formalised in august 2000, in accordance with Cameroonian law n° 90/053 of 19/12/1990 about the freedom of gathering.
    APDC is non lucrative, independent, non political and religions free.
 
AIM: Contribute to the improvement of life conditions through the defence of consumer’s interests. Develop the regulations, the commercial practices, and consumer’s behaviour.
 
Method:
1-      Education and information of consumers; the purpose is to inform the consumers on their rights and obligations (seminaries, practice formulary, flyers, and other communications materials about diverse subjects of life, and a newspaper named: Le CONSOMMATEUR).
2-      Settlement amicably of conflicts, and when necessary, lawsuits.
3-      Representation of consumer’s in front of the institutions, to influence on the decisions concerning the protection of consumers.
4-      Collective actions, meetings and forums about current events when necessary.
 
Sphere of action:
     All the problems concerning citizen’s life: economy, life quality, security, environment, health, human rights, ecology...
 
Partnerships:
   APDC looks for partnerships with all the others associations on consumer’s field in Cameroon, Africa, the entire World.
   As a poverty fighter, APDC works with all the national and international institutions with the same purposes.

APDC trough it’s several actions has followed plural aspects of consumer’s life: OMC conventions, ACP/UE, NEPAD, Citizenship education, VIH SIDA, Water privatisation, electricity…
